Judged bromeliad shows are an important and beneficial aspect of bromeliad events, sales and conferences worldwide. They inspire both new and long time growers alike by showcasing bromeliad excellence. Judges are in demand for these bromeliad shows—now you have a fantastic opportunity to become a judge too!
There are six Judges Schools in total and School I is an excellent place to start. Each School explores several different genera, subgenera, and hybrids and will give you the knowledge of the criteria that are used to evaluate plants based on established standards.
Saddleback Valley Bromeliad Society is announcing that Judges School, Class One, will be offered Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the Hilton Hotel, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. You will be immersed in the Bromeliaceae Family: Subfamilies Pitcairnioideae, Brocchinioideae, Lindmanioideae, Hectioideae, Navioideae, and Puyoideae, hybrids, intergenerics and correct nomenclature.
An outstanding panel of instructor Judges is planned for a full day of training in two sessions: Dr. Terrie Bert will teach in the morning. Pam Koide-Hyatt and Robert Kopfstein will lead the afternoon session.
Lunch will be included in the $40 class fee. Enrolled attendees will be issued a Certificate of Completion for School I at the conclusion of the class.
